MBRU Opens its Doors to the Second Cohort of Medical Students- Class of 2023
Under the theme Students of Today, Doctors of 2023, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) opens its doors to welcome the second cohort of medical students on August 20, 2017.
This year’s student intake for the Bachelors of Medicine, Bachelors of Surgery, (MBBS) program is 40 medical students, in which a large percentage are UAE nationals, and the remaining number of students come from a host of countries across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and North America.
The Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Alawi Al-sheikh Ali greeted the new intake of students with an opening address this morning, at the University’s auditorium welcoming the new students to the MBRU family. Further welcome speeches were delivered by MBRU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Amer Sharif, Provost Mutairu Ezimokhai, and Professor Graham McGeown the academic lead from MBRU’s academic partner Queen’s University of Belfast.
During the welcome speeches, Provost Ezimokhai stressed the importance of hard work, persistence, and never giving up. Moreover, Professor Alawi stated: “There are 3 words that encompass the qualities you need for a great career in medicine: humanity, humility and a sense of humor.”
The agenda for Orientation Day 2017-2018 includes an array of activities such as a meet and greet session between the students and the academic and administrative staff of the College, and the students from the first cohort. Followed by a comprehensive tour and introduction of MBRU’s facilities such as the Al Maktoum Medical Library, the Simulation Center, and multi-disciplinary labs, as well as the anatomy lab, and newly opened research labs.
