Program Director Message
Dear Prospective Residents,
A warm welcome to our Pediatric Neurology Residency Program. We are delighted to have you join our Program to fully support you as you embark on an exciting career journey.
The Program provides a unique opportunity for aspiring physicians to be trained in an academic institution.
The Pediatric Neurology residents spend their first two years of training in general pediatrics. The next final three years will be in Pediatric Neurology, supervised by highly qualified consultants with a broad range of Pediatric Neurology sub-specialties (for instance epilepsy, movement disorders, neuromuscular disorders, neurorehabilitation, and neurodevelopmental pediatrics). Al Jalila Children’s Hospital is equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art neurodiagnostic tools including a child-friendly neurophysiology department. It is one of the largest international treatment sites for novel therapies such as gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy.
Throughout the 5 years of training, our residents focus will be placed on the enhancement of the resident’s competence in the medical interview and physical examination, and communication and interpersonal skills. Applying evidence-based practices is paramount. Residents will have a progressive educational experience with increasing patient care responsibility. One of the main goals of our Program is to enable our residents to demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes for effective patient-centered care and service to a unique group of patients spanning fatal, neonatal, childhood and adolescent developmental stages. Residents are empowered to participate in a variety of clinical experiences involving the care of inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic neurological disorders, and the prevention and rehabilitation of such disorders.
One of the pillars of the mission of this Program is to encourage the trainees to learn career-development skills through scholarly activity, research, and the lifelong study of evidence-based medicine.
We look forward to working with you.
