Mohamed is a researcher in population genomics interested in using human genetic variation to understand disease pathogenesis, adaptation and population history. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, where as a researcher at the Wellcome Sanger Institute he worked on analysing whole-genome sequences from the Human Genome Diversity Project and led a project focusing on the genomic variation and population history of Middle Eastern populations. His current research focuses on understanding the population genomic structure in Middle Eastern groups and how it affects susceptibility to disease.
