Dr. Laila Alsuwaidi is the inaugural Dean of Student Affairs and an Associate Professor of Molecular Hematology at the College of Medicine, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). Dr. Alsuwaidi is a graduate of the UAE University. She obtained her MSc in Biomedical Science from the University of the West of England, Bristol, UK (1999), and her PhD in Molecular Hematology at Cardiff University School of Medicine, Cardiff, UK (2005). She received advanced Medical Technology training in the Laboratories of the National Blood Service-Bristol Centre, UK (1998)
She has more than two decades of medical laboratory experience in Hematology & Blood Bank including 10 years post doctorate experience in Blood Donor Centre of the Dubai Heath Authority (DHA). Dr. Laila was appointed as a Head of Dubai Cord blood & Research Centre (DCRC) of the DHA, also she worked as a Director of Dubai Blood Donation Centre (DBDC) and had outstanding contributions to the development and the International Recognition (AABB Accreditation) of the center. She has been credited for many achievements that have obviously improved the patients care, reduced the expenditures rate, and or increased the income rate in DHA.
In addition to executive management and technical position, she worked as an Adjunct Faculty in Health Science in the Department of Health Sciences Division at the Higher Colleges of Technology-UAE (2013-2015). Dr. Laila participated as guest and Chairperson in number of professional meetings and conferences. She also served as mentor of graduate student & author of several manuscripts. In 2013 she was awarded Shk. Sultan Bin Khalifa International Thalassemia Award for Best Research Publication.
